Italy Through the Ages

Short-term Study Abroad Program—2017

Visit Florence, Venice, and Rome while studying Italian history, art, and culture.

Course

AR 260 – Introduction to Italy: History, Art and Culture – 3 credits. This course counts toward the Aesthetics General Education requirement or Art Elective.

The course will be taken as part of the student’s spring semester course load. A course fee will be charged to cover much of the in-country cost. Normal aid can be applied to the program.

Course will meet the final eight weeks of the semester.

Cost

Students will be charged a course fee $2,300–$2,600* to cover the cost of in-country travel, activities, and most meals. Course fee does not include cost of flight, passport, optional activities, and some meals.

*Cost will vary based on student enrollment.

Eligibility

Students need to have a GPA of 2.0 or higher and sophomore status. Eligibility will also be based on recommendations and record of behavior at Saint Mary’s.

Application Process

Application Deadline: December 1, 2016

Visit the Study Abroad Office to apply and register for AR 260.

Students who wish to drop AR 260 need to withdraw through the Study Abroad Office by 4 p.m. on January 16, 2017, to avoid paying the course fee. Those who remain enrolled at that time will be responsible for the full course fee.

Visit the Study Abroad Office, located in the International Center, The Heights, for assistance.

Example of Itinerary:

May 14 — Depart for Italy

May 15-17 — Rome Tour

May 17-21 — Florence Tour

May 21-31 — Paderno del Grappa

May 31 — Return

Housing

Students will stay in local hotels or apartments in Rome and Florence. In Paderno del Grappa, dormitory-style housing will be provided at the Filippin Institute. All rooms have a private bathroom.
