Christian Faith and the Arts

Short-term Study Abroad Program—2017

The program is an exploration of the ways in which the Christian faith is expressed through the arts. Students will learn to “read” great works of art including the Sistine Chapel’s Last Judgement and Giotto’s cycle of frescos that chart the life of St. Francis of Assisi.

Course

Christian Faith and the Arts

Equivalent: The course will equivalent to a 200-Level Theology Course and satisfy the Faith Traditions 2 general education content area.

Prerequisite: 100 level theology course, or Faith Traditions 1. Students will be registered for the course in the spring semester and meet via a video conference with Dr. Colonna.

  • The Generalte of the Brothers of the Christian Brothers is the official De La Salle Christian Brothers’ headquarters in Rome. It is the residence of the Brother Superior General and his Council. The Generalate has a variety of facilities including the Christian Brothers’ archives, library, bookstore, museum, a 120 room hotel, and residence for Brothers.

Housing

Students will stay in double occupancy rooms at the Generalate of the Brothers of the Christian Schools while in Rome. In Assisi students will spend the night in a hotel

Course Fee

$2,000-$2,400 Course Fee includes most in-country meals, activities, transportation and insurance. * Cost of passport, flight, and some in-country expenses are not included in the course fee and are the responsibility of the student.

Eligibility

Participants will need to have Sophomore status and a preferred GPA of 2.5. Eligibility will also be based on recommendations and record of behavior at Saint Mary’s. The number of accepted students is limited.

Application Process

Apply with the Study Abroad Office by November 18. Once accepted students will be charged a $500 non-refundable deposit which will be applied toward the course fee in January.
